It's a thousand times better than either of the old theaters, go and don't pass judgement. Give the owners a break an in amonth they have any quirks worked out.

I second that sentiment. This was an enormous undertaking - and they didn't even have to move and upgrade the theaters to begin with (keeping in mind this isn't some big corporation with millions in investment dollars laying around). It's something that most of us wouldn't attempt to do because of the cost and work involved.

For the (few) folks who have nothing but complaints about the place, I say they should go and take out a few million from the bank and build their own the way they want it. [img]/LDPforum/ubbthreads/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/smile.gif[/img]

I went last weekend. It was nice. Its not the most glorious theater experience ever, but it is nicer than what we had. They definitely have some things that they need to finish and probably should have pushed the opening back a bit more, but no doubt they wanted to try and increase the chances of making some money back quicker with it being summer blockbuster season. Hopefully they continue to do well and can finish the projects in a very timely manner.

To me, its a nice place, and with gas prices, it's definitely worth going there as opposed to a trip to the Tri-cities.

They definitely need to finish whatever deals with the sound system they need to, it had good sound but I didn't think that the back speakers or much to the sides seemed to be working (or if they were, it was obvious they weren't set right), hopefully they will get a few better video games in there as well. I'd also hope that they put something down to mark the stairs, when I was there, the theater was dark, and people couldn't really tell where they were walking.

Right now I'd give it a solid B rating, with definite ability to get it to an A hopefully in the not so distant future.

I was actually fairly impressed with the arcade selection they had, even if some of them were a little boring such as your standard whack-a-mole and throw-the-basketballs-into-the-hoop arcades. Their prices were incredible as well compared to other arcades. The two I'm about to tell about below were each one quarter to play, whereas an X-Men arcade machine anywhere else would probably be .50 or more to play.

Some of my favorites were the X-Men and Atari SUBS arcade.

ATARI SUBS


This is an oldie but a good one that you don't hear much about. After doing some research, it's supposedly the first dual-monitor Atari video game arcade. The picture above sucks and it's hard to find much information on it, but the way it works is you can have two players (one on each side of the machine) and you each control your little submarine from an overhead view using the steering wheel.

You use an awesome looking sonar-like screen in the bottom left corner of the monitor (featuring a line that's actually rotating clockwise, revealing any submarines it passes over) to find your opponent, or you can just wait for them to approach you and fire torpedos, following the "bullet trail" to see where they are.

There isn't a lot of control over your sub, as you simply rotate it and fire torpedos - there are no "stop" or "go" commands, meaning that it's moving forwards regardless of whether you want it to or not.

It was a nice little arcade machine in my opinion, though, and a very unique one to play. It was one of the first that caught my eye because it's so old and looks so unique, even from a distance. I would recommend anyone to try it out, even if it doesn't have the greatest graphics in the world.


X-Men (by Konami)


One word for this machine: WOW. I was absolutely in awe when I turned the corner and saw this one sitting just out of sight. It really caught me by surprise, and when I actually walked over to observe it, I was in even more awe. The game is your standard "Streets of Rage" or "Double Dragon"-style beat-em-up in which you fight wave after wave of enemies that appear as you slowly move through the level after encountering each wave, only this one's a lot bigger than your average beat-em-up arcade.

The first thing you'll notice is just how many joysticks there are. You can actually have SIX guys on this thing at one time playing at the same time, each as different X-Men mutants. Instead of selecting your mutant on a certain screen within the game, the mutant you play as is determined by which coin slot you choose.

The second thing you'll notice is that this machine is so freaking huge, there are actually two big monitors connected together to make up one gigantic wide screen!

The third thing you'll notice is that it takes ONE, yes ONE quarter to play this game. When I saw the price, I couldn't resist and had to dive right in to see what it was like. I teamed up with my brother (me as Wolverine, him as Nightcrawler) and we played for almost 15+ minutes on just two quarters. The great thing about the gameplay is that you get enough lives so that you don't have to be kicked from the game if you die just a few times. You actually have five or more lives to play with and a large life-meter made up of many bars so you can last for a very long time compared to other arcade games.

It's hard to say enough for this game, but if you can find five buddies to team up with so that you have all six slots filled, I imagine that this arcade would simply be a BLAST to play. The fun to be had is unimaginable with so many guys teaming up together at once as so many different X-Men mutants, each with his/her own abilities.



As for the movie itself . . .

I saw Indiana Jones yesterday at the 4 O'clock showing and I do agree that there were some things that needed to be worked on.

For one, they didn't even have their butter machines working. The popcorn wasn't bad at all, but it definitely wasn't as good as butter-covered theater popcorn, either.

For another, I agree with those of you saying that the place is a little too dark. When you walk back to where the numbered theaters are located, it's so dark you feel as if you've just wandered into a cavern of some sort. When you actually move into one of the theaters themselves, it gets even darker and makes you wander, "Did this guy just lead us to an unfinished room?"

Finally, the sound system, although loud and crisp, tended to pop and crackle every now and then and the surround sound system even died out a couple times during the movie, only to come back in after a couple minutes passed. This wasn't a major gripe because it wasn't happening all the time, but it was very noticeable and something they'll have to look into. So I do agree, the sound system - although it has potential - does need work.

As a whole, however, the new theater beats the living hell out of anything else we have around here and I felt that the "lobby"/arcades, the screen, the seating, the sound, etc. were much better than anything we've ever had before in this area. With enough improvements, as R0ck said, this place will definitely be "A"-quality.
